Middle England has a video doorbell problem. It’s not a problem that ought to be solved because it’s far too funny, nor is it likely to cause much harm, but it’s a problem nonetheless. The good folk of English country towns are obsessed with reviewing footage of what’s going on outside their front doors. And it can be scary stuff.

Local social media groups are alive with warnings about “lurkers” and “shady sorts looking through windows” that invariably turn out to be delivery drivers who have gotten lost. And “thieves” who are really just…
